Build more housing now

The new 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is now law, even without the President's signature.

After a broad bipartisan push to address the housing crisis in this country, we passed a transformational housing bill through Congress. But the President cancelled the signing ceremony because fixing America's housing crisis wasn't a priority for him.

The American people need solutions to the housing crisis, but President Trump dragged his feet as long as he could. This bill is now law, and Oregonians will benefit greatly from it.

Rent and mortgages are at record highs, taking up a bigger chunk of paychecks than ever before. Fewer working Americans can afford to buy a house. Roughly 77% of U.S. households cannot afford a median-priced home. Working families shouldn't be forced to leave their community to settle down.

This law prevents large institutional investors from buying up single-family homes, increases the number and type of housing supply and encourages reforms to restrictive local zoning. This is the kind of work Americans sent us to Congress to do.

Across the country, housing prices and a lack of affordable housing are a big problem. This bill is a big part of the solution. Increasing home construction, bringing down costs, and making homeownership easier and more affordable for American families – it's a no-brainer.
