Register-Guard: Hoyle a solid choice

Register-Guard Editorial Board, September 25, 2009

The new District 14 representative is well prepared.

The Lane County Board of Commissioners had a strong field of contenders seeking to fill the vacant District 14 seat in the state House of Representatives, but the choice was clear: Val Hoyle’s range of relevant experience was broad enough to make her the commissioners’ unanimous choice on Wednesday.

Hoyle’s appointment completes a series of events that began when Vicki Walker resigned from the state Senate in July to accept a job as head of the state Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision. The Lane County board named District 14 Rep. Chris Edwards to take her place. Now Hoyle will fill Edwards’ vacancy, and Lane County’s legislative roster is complete again.
